One of the early tasks assigned to me on Matrix Resurrections was exploring the look of the synthetic skin of a stingray-like Machine called Kujaku, which was designed by Jeff Darrow himself.
The idea was that Kujaku's surface was made by nanomachines that were able to shift between a metallic/opaque and transparent/translucent status, an effect called nano-flage.
The director was interested into having patterns of the creature being translucent, so to reveal the glow of the interior parts.
The creature had also to use the nanoflage to turn itself invisible.
Variations exploring possible looks for Kujaku's synthetic skin.
Some early tests I did to research ways Kujaku's nanoflage could make it become invisible. The focus was on the surace rippling with the effect.
